Occupational wellbeing of Australian healthcare workers

Griffith University’s Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing (WOW) is a highly productive and diverse group of scholars who perform rigorous research to bridge the gap between workplace research, practice and policy, to help meet the demands of a constantly changing and adapting business world. WOW is a Griffith University faculty-level research centre, based in the Department of Employment Relations and Human Resources, Griffith Business School.

The successful candidates will be based at Griffith University’s Nathan campus.

The selection of applicants for the award of higher degree research scholarships at Griffith University involves consideration of your academic merit and research background. To be successful within this role, you should be familiar with occupational stress, employee wellbeing, human resources, and leadership concepts and research. Desirable attributes include experience in or an understanding of healthcare workers and organisations in Australia, and experience in undertaking interviews, focus groups, surveys, observational studies, and/or quantitative and qualitative analyses of employee data.

  • Expressions of interest are welcome from domestic and international applicants  able to commence in early 2023.
  • Applicants must have completed, or expect to complete prior to commencing the doctorate, a Bachelor’s Degree with first class or second upper honours or a Research Master’s Degree in a related field (e.g., organisational behaviour/psychology, human resources, employment/labour relations, or social science), of a standard comparable to a Bachelor Honours degree or be regarded by Griffith University as having an equivalent level of attainment. International applicants should ensure that English Language Proficiency requirements for the program are met before formally applying. Applicants to research programs will need to show they meet:

  • A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on the IELTS (Academic) with no band score less than 6.0
  • OR a minimum score of 575 on the paper-based TOEFL including a score of no less than 5.0 on the TWE
  • OR a score of 79 on the internet-based (iBT) TOEFL with no sub-score less than 19
  • There are two scholarships available. One funded by Griffith University (H1E required) and one funded by the ARC (H2AE required).

    The awards have an annual stipend of $28,854 (indexed) for a period of up to three years of full-time study.

    A successful International applicant will also be awarded a Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship to cover tuition fees for up to three years. Please see the GUIPRS Conditions of Award for more information.

    Each PhD candidate will receive research support of $4,500 from the Centre of Work, Organisation and Wellbeing (WOW). This support may be utilised for research expenses, including personal development activities such as fees for external statistical courses and conference attendance.

These senior researchers are also accessible for research advice and mentoring (e.g., research grant and journal article reviewing, research guidance).
