Role Summary

Assist and supervise Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and the Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) nutrition programmes. Provide training and supervision to local staff, manage reports and data, ensure adequate stocks, and monitor health and nutrition activities. Oversee intermittent programme management requiring creative approaches.

Project Overview

Medair implements a comprehensive nutrition programme in Leer County to combat the high rates of malnutrition affecting vulnerable populations, particularly children under five and pregnant and lactating women. At the heart of Medair’s approach is the Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition where Medair operates 19 nutrition sites (18 OTP/TSFP and 1 stabilisation center) with an overarching goal of reducing morbidity and mortality in Leer’s vulnerable communities, particularly in areas where Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) rates exceed emergency thresholds.

Workplace & Conditions

Field based position in Leer, South Sudan

Responsibilities:

• Nutrition Management: Oversee the nutrition programme (CMAM and MIYCN), ensuring quality service delivery, staff training, accurate reporting, and represent the organisation in local coordination meetings.

• Programme integration: Coordinate with Behaviour Change Communication (BCC), health, WASH and MHPSS projects to maximise benefits of Medair’s multisectoral programme to the admitted children and caregivers.

• Staff Management: Assist in recruiting local staff, manage and oversee nutrition staff, and ensure they receive appropriate supervision, mentoring, and training to develop their skills and knowledge.

• Financial Management: Manage field location finances and salary payments in coordination with the Project Manager and Project Support Manager. Oversee petty cash requirements and paperwork.

• Logistics and Quality Management: Coordinate ordering and management of stocks and supplies and systems, monitor expiration dates, implement policies including Sphere and HAP standards. Participate in workshops.

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:

• Degree in Nutrition

• 2 years post-qualification experience in humanitarian work implementing CMAM programmes

• Experience working in a nutrition programme in a developing country, preferably humanitarian context

• Language skills: Good English (spoken and written)

• Supervisory management experience

Behavioural Skills

• Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner, with good understanding of cross-cultural issues

• Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels

• Able to oversee multiple tasks, prioritizing and delegating as required

• Good communication skills

• Team-player with good inter-personal skills, creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner
