Position Summary
Position provides primary and/or specialty nursing and/or medical care in a variety of settings; works under physician oversight as required by state regulation, and functions within the scope of practice defined by the NP’s specialty certification, BJH medical by-laws, and, where it exists, the collaborative practice agreement.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides management services for patients with behavioral health needs, including assessment, medication administration and family/patient education in both the inpatient setting, outpatient setting and emergency department.
- Takes active role in triage, advising patients, participating in daily behavioral health huddles and rounds, assessing needs and referring to appropriate personnel.
- Monitors behavioral plan of patients, documenting charts and reporting changes as necessary.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards.
- Participates in planning care of new consults as it relates to diagnosis, treatment, referrals, reassessment, and coordination of care with all members of the health care team. Works in strong partnership with physician in managing patients.
- Prepares patients and caregivers for discharge as it relates to all discharge criteria, including medication, community resources and follow up appointments.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Monitors/ensures accuracy of patient medical records, maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
- Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops.
- Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Holds current certification in patient care field and required specialty.
Required Qualifications
- Current MSN with emphasis in the Nurse Practitioner program.
- APN licensure or ability to successfully obtain licensure within three months of date of hire.
- Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
- Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Salary Range
$82,900.00 – $149,300.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
