Job Summary

Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of  GI Surgery and guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies, and, Medical Staff Policies, and any unique to inpatient or ambulatory patient services (for those AHPs providing services both in the inpatient and ambulatory environments) this Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to GI Surgery and Colorectal Surgery. This AHP position may perform delegated functions as appropriate to their “scope of practice”.  In general, the “scope of practice” includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy), routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office website. The CIDP approved standardized procedures are unique to each person and unlikely to include all SPs on the list.  This position may provide inpatient (possible outpatient) care in approved age groups at UCSF Health licensed settings. 

Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 90+ cost center, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. Required Qualifications

NP 1

• Minimum three years of adult medical/surgical nursing experience or minimum of two years medical oncology nursing experience

NP 2

• Minimum of 1 year related Nurse Practitioner experience
• Minimum three years of adult medical/surgical nursing experience or minimum of two years medical oncology nursing experience
• Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
• Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of recent experience as an inpatient Adult Nurse Practitioner in                    an academic medical center or 5 years previous experience as a clinical nurse in a surgical              oncology inpatient setting
• Wound/stoma care experience
• Experience working at an academic medical center

License/Certification

• California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position

• Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work

• Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California

• Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner

• Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer)

• Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day.  CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments

• Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement

• State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice

UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment, and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
