Job Summary

Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of GU Medical Oncology and guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies, and, Medical Staff Policies, and any unique to inpatient or ambulatory patient services (for those APPs providing services both in the inpatient and ambulatory environments) this Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to GU Medical Oncology. This APP position may perform delegated functions as appropriate to their “scope of practice”.  In general, the “scope of practice” includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy), routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office website.

The CIDP approved standardized procedures are unique to each person and unlikely to include all SPs on the list.  This position may provide inpatient (possible outpatient) care in approved age groups at UCSF Health licensed settings.  The APP has responsibility for the quality of standards of care for a specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the all UCSF medical center locations.  UCSF Health requires all Advanced Practice Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role.  This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Satellite Clinics, et al).  

Candidate Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
Candidate cannot be a current UC employee. Candidate cannot have been employed by the University during the 12 months prior to the proposed rehire date. Candidate position classification cannot be Senior Management Group (SMG). Proposed candidate total case compensation offer must be below the Indexed Compensation Level (ICL) of $340,000 as of (9/1/2021). Candidate must meet any additional UC location eligibility requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent medical oncology experience with demonstrated clinical experience as an NP in oncology care, including chemotherapy plans, patient education, and care coordination

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of experience as an advanced practice nurse in a GU medical oncology program
  • Experience working with Clinical Trial Protocols
  • Experience working in an Academic Medical Center
  • AOCN Certification

License/Certification

  • California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.   
  • Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
  • Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner.
  • Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day.  CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement        
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice

UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment, and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
