Position Summary
This position is in the Department of Anesthesiology delivering patient care in the cardiothoracic intensive care units (CTICUs) on the medical school campus at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and affiliated BJC community hospitals within the St. Louis area, and telemedicine. Full-time position working approximately 40 hours per week. Schedule will consist of an average of (3) 12-13 hour shifts per week to include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and call.
The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will practice as an independent provider in collaboration with a fellowship trained intensivist within a diverse, skilled, multidisciplinary critical care team in a large, academic medical center that has some of the largest mechanical device, lung transplant, and aortic programs in the country. The environment is challenging and rewarding and allows the ACNP/PA the opportunity to practice to the fullest extent of their scope of practice.

Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, participating in multidisciplinary rounds, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, designing and implementing plans of care, and performing invasive procedures. Typical provider: patient ratio 1:6. In this academic environment, talents and skills are developed through intellectually stimulating work experiences, ample educational offerings, procedural simulation, and other learning venues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with devices commonly utilized in cardiothoracic surgery patient population.

Required Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

  • Current MSN with emphasis in the Nurse Practitioner program.
  • APN licensure or ability to successfully obtain licensure within 3 months of date of hire.
  • Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Or

Physician Assistant

  • Graduate of PA program.
  • Current PA license to practice in the state of Missouri or ability to obtain within 3 months of date of hire; Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty; Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
