Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine is a clinical science department within the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. We are dedicated to providing excellence in education, patient care, research, and service in mental health. Job Duties The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine seeks an experienced registered nurse to manage and coordinate quality patient care services in an ambulatory setting. The Nurse Manager is accountable for the nursing operations within Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Brody School of Medicine and serves as a resource for other medical professionals who function in the clinical areas. This individual is responsible for patient education and providing patient care within a safe environment, which also includes working directly in clinic to provide patient care when warranted. Clinical administration is a key responsibility of this position and involves developing and implementing standards of care as well as developing policies and procedures to improve patient care, as well as working with key members of Psychiatry leadership team. The Nurse Manager will be able to act independently and problem solve diplomatically and tactfully. In addition, the manager will participate in personnel management, including employee selection, orientation, competency, performance evaluations, counseling and disciplinary actions. This individual will effectively communicate with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals as an essential member of the healthcare team. Work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as it’s teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.
Minimum Education/Experience Graduation from a state-accredited school of registered nursing and three years of nursing experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation State of North Carolina Registered Nursing License
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • One or more years of experience as a lead or charge nurse is preferred
  • Experience working within an academic psychiatric setting

License or Certification required by the Department State of North Carolina Registered Nursing License
