Nurse-led Therapeutic Intervention PhD Scholarship

PhD Scholarship for testing the acceptability and clinical effectiveness of a nurse-led therapeutic intervention to reduce aggression and restrictive practice in acute mental health facilities.

Background: Southern Cross University and Mid North Local Health District are pleased to offer a fully funded PhD scholarship commencing in December 2022 supported through a research grant from the NSW Health Translational Research Grants Scheme.

This is an exciting opportunity to conduct research in partnership with two Local Health Districts, and will be suited to individuals from a range of health disciplines (nursing, allied health, psychology, public health). The PhD will be conducted in a highly supportive environment, with strong career development and networking opportunities, as well as excellent supervision and mentoring.

Project focus: This PhD scholarship will establish whether an intervention designed and successfully trialled in one facility can be successfully translated into other settings. The project will examine the impact of the intervention on aggression and restrictive practices, consumer and nurse experiences of care, implementation and sustainability strategies and cost-effectiveness.

The project has been co-designed with consumers and will have lived-experience consultants as co-investigators throughout the project.  It will will also have a strong emphasis on translation of findings, offering the opportunity to engage with industry experts to inform practice and policy.

The successful candidates will receive a scholarship of $40,000 p.a for 3 years, as well as a tuition fee waiver. Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens, and must meet the entry requirements to enrol in a PhD at Southern Cross University.
