In Bangladesh, NRC provides humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees living in camps in Cox’s Bazar and to vulnerable host communities affected by the prolonged humanitarian crisis. NRC’s WASH programme aims to improve access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services while reducing public health risks and promoting a healthy living environment.
The WASH Assistant is based in the Uhiya field office and regular traves to the field and supports the implementation of WASH activities, including water supply, sanitation facility maintenance, hygiene promotion, and community engagement. The role involves monitoring WASH facilities, coordinating with community volunteers and local stakeholders, collecting and reporting field data, and ensuring that activities are implemented effectively and in line with NRC standards.
The role of the WASH Assistant is to assist in implementing WASH activities, support WASH implementation by conducting field outreach with communities, and monitor day-to-day implementation and coordination with WASH and HP Officers.
Key Specific responsibilities:
Provide general administrative and operational support to the WASH /Emergency response program.
Support to WASH Officers, in conducting needs assessments, infrastructure assessments, verification, and data collection to identify cases for WASH assistance in refugee camps and host communities.
Prepare estimates, BoQs, and drawings of WASH infrastructure based on needs.
Monitor the loading and offloading of WASH materials, verify compliance with technical specifications, and ensure proper utilization of stock materials for repair and rehabilitation works.
Supervise, assign tasks, and provide guidance to daily workers (National and Refugee Contingent Workers), and monitor their performance.

Provide direction, monitor assigned tasks and give instructions to daily workers (e.g., national and refugee CW) and evaluate individual performance.
Monitor the progress of activities of assigned daily workers and ensure they are implemented to planning and quality standards.
Take part in the mobilization of refugee and host communities for awareness campaigns and for conducting research using focus group discussions, interviews, and questionnaires.
Establish excellent relations with project participants, including understanding the needs of beneficiaries through regular visits and frequent contact.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience in the relevant field.
Bachelors/Diploma in architecture, civil engineering, or construction management, or equivalent.
Good knowledge of the refugee context in Bangladesh
Ability to communicate in Chittagonian dialect
Experience of working in a non-profit organization is an asset.
Knowledge of the software programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
