Political Science at Arizona State University Tempe campus seeks applications for the Norma F. Schuessler Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded each spring to an undergraduate student who will be continuing classes at ASU, has amassed a strong academic record in the face of unusual or uncommon challenges and demonstrates financial need. Ms. Schuessler, mother of Ruth S. Jones (the first tenured woman in the ASU Department of Political Science and the first woman to chair Political Science at ASU) wanted to provide financial assistance to a student who has met obstacles or challenges on the path to completing an undergraduate degree.

Additional criteria: 

Only applicants that meet all of the following requirements will be considered for the scholarship:

  • Applicant must be a Political Science major (BA or BS) in the School of Politics and Global Studies (Tempe campus).
  • Applicant must have completed no fewer than 60 hours by start of fall semester (60 or more completed hours on DARS).
  • Applicant must have completed a minimum of 15 credit hours at ASU at the time the application is made.
  • Applicant must have a 2.5 minimum cumulative gpa.  
  • Financial need is a consideration for this award.
  • Donor preferences: 

    Preferential consideration will be given to applicants who meet the above requirements and demonstrate financial need as well as the ability to overcome obstacles while pursuing higher education. Previous recipients must reapply to be considered and may receive this award a total of two times.
