Job Overview: The Supplemental Case Management (SCM) Caseworker will address barriers to safety and wellness for especially vulnerable refugees, asylees, and other ORR-eligible populations by providing strengths-based, trauma-informed case management. They work closely with clients, colleagues, and external parties to develop service plans to meet individual client needs and preferences utilizing a broad range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources in accordance with client eligibility and Preferred Communities program requirements. 

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Determine client eligibility and perform intake appointments, including intake assessments, agreement forms, and individualized self-sufficiency plans for each client enrolled in the SCM program. 
  • Evaluate client progress every three months during active program enrollment to determine the client’s progress towards goals and work with the client to identify new needs and actions needed. 
  • Assist clients in navigating healthcare, social service systems, employment and housing; this may include assisting with applying for benefits, scheduling and attending appointments and applying for employment and housing. 
  • Maintain a strong network of service providers that meet client needs. 
  • Assist clients by requesting financial assistance when applicable.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation in client’s case file to ensure services are properly documented throughout the client’s service period; document all services provided in IRC’s database, Efforts to Outcomes (ETO). 
  • Attend relevant trainings and meetings at the local and national level. 
  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion in IRC Turlock/Modesto.
  • Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue, and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to:  Intensive Case Management/ORR Initial Resettlement Services Coordinator
Position directly supervises: N/A

Indirect Reporting: Resettlement Manager 
Other Internal and/or external contacts: Stanislaus, Merced, San Joaquin, Mariposa, and Tuolumne counties; medical providers, insurance providers, interpreters, landlords, occasionally employers; governmental agencies (DMV, etc.)

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or related field of study preferred.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of case management experience with similar populations and/or client needs required.
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred. 

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.
  • Proactive approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
  • Fluency in English required, both spoken and written.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.
  • Demonstrates proficient time management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.
  • Able to carry 15-20 lbs. occasionally. 

Working Environment: 

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. Currently, this position works in-office Monday-Wednesday and remote/in-field Thursday-Friday, subject to change.  
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • May require transporting clients in personal and IRC vehicles. 

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
