The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within the Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) works with UNICEF National Committees and country offices to maximize engagement and drive income growth.
Within PSFP the Principal Adviser, Partnerships leads the Corporate, Foundations, MSP-A, and UNISON teams – working across these to strengthen collaboration and increase meaningful partnerships with the private sector. NB: The Principal Adviser, Partnerships will transition into the role of Deputy Director, PSFP, and this post will provide critical transition support on key projects throughout that period.
Under the guidance of the Principal Adviser, Partnerships, and in collaboration with the PSFP section and others, the Partnerships Specialist will lead and support initiatives to transform the way UNICEF partners and engages with the private sector, focusing on achieving the best for children.

Under the guidance of the Principal Adviser, Partnerships, and in collaboration with the PSFP section and others, the Partnerships Specialist will lead and support initiatives to transform the way UNICEF partners and engages with the private sector, focusing on achieving the best for children.

Working in close collaboration with fundraising and influence teams in National Committees and country offices, PFP teams, Regional Support Centres, Programme Groups, and other UNICEF divisions, the incumbent is accountable for the following:

How can you make a difference?

  1. Support the retention and uplifting of UNICEF’s most significant private sector partnerships, acting as surge capacity during key moments.
  2. Drive and support key initiatives within the Principal Adviser’s remit.
  3. Lead the PFP Virtual Experiences Taskforce (VET).
  4. Additional support on initiatives or projects as needed.

DELIVERABLES:

Partnership Support:

  • Act as relationship manager/focal point on specific partnerships where needed.
  • Work in an agile way with colleagues across PFP and PG to support the development of a holistic proposal that includes income and influence elements as key components for the upcoming Rotary partnership renewal and other similar partnerships.
  • Develop and test non-financial offers that deepen partnerships and can unlock new avenues of funding, including ways to activate large volunteer bases at a local level and leverage UNICEF’s supply power.
  • Support partnership managers to deepen key partners’ understanding of UNICEF’s work and the impact they can have.
  • Lead convening moments at key events throughout the year designed to deepen partner’s commitment to UNICEF, as needed.

Principal Adviser Support:

  • Analysing current expenditure and ROI to make the case for increased direct investment to enable sustained growth of private sector partnerships.
  • Supporting a review/reframing the way UNICEF partners with the private sector, shifting the focus towards a ‘doing the most good’ narrative through income, influence and other means.
  • Project management support on any change initiatives, such as ‘Future Proof’ and the Headquarters Efficiency initiative as they relate to the PSFP section.

VDE coordination:

  • Chair regular meetings of the taskforce, ensuring active participation from all key stakeholders.
  • Work with the taskforce to develop the annual calendar using audience insights and feedback from markets, ensuring clear objectives and private sector voices are present for each VE.
  • Increase awareness within high value channels on how VEs can be used for audience-specific needs.
  • Trial and test new types of VEs or approaches/formats.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with global fundraising colleagues and collaborate with them to ensure that Virtual Experiences helps engage their prospects and partners at the highest level.
  • Collaborate with Programme Group to ensure that the focus, topics and timing of the VE calendar is actionable and fits with UNICEF’s fundraising priorities.
  • Monitor global and regional trends in high-value fundraising to ensure that UNICEF creates a robust and competitive offer, in line with audience motivations.
  • Fulfil other project management duties as needed.

To qualify as a Champion for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An Advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: Business Administration, Social Sciences, International Relations, Government, Public Administration, or another relevant technical field.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree in combination with two years of additional work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. 

Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional work experience is required preferably in major gift, corporate, foundation, or general public fundraising.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of high-value fundraising, as well as an understanding of international development, and private sector campaign-based fundraising is required.
  • Experience in developing outstanding supporter experiences is essential.
  • Direct experience in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding 6-7 figure private sector partnerships is required.
  • Direct experience working in project management is required.
  • Experience working in international organizations and on cross-divisional or cross-functional teams are additional is an asset.
  • UN/UNICEF and National Committee experience is an asset.

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
