The IT Assistant is responsible for assisting and facilitating the installation, configuration, staff training and operations of IT activities in IRC Erbil office. Fulfillment of these responsibilities may require travel to Mosul, Kirkuk, Baghdad, and other locations.  Prominent working relationships are the Program Managers, Emergency Coordinator, Senior IT Officer, and IT colleagues in Iraq IRC offices.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

(1) Installation & Configuration of:

  • Servers, desktop/laptop hardware and software, and peripherals.
  • Local Area Network, wireless network, peer-to-peer or client server architecture, as appropriate.  
  • Windows 11 operating system on workstations, domain services, and other essential network services.
  • Printers, projectors, etc…

(2) Maintenance, Support, Repair & Security:

  • Perform preventative maintenance on all IRC computers and network resources.
  • Create backup plans for office/individual users and provide the necessary training on the use of these back-up plans.
  • Update appropriate network security procedures to safeguard system from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users and damage to data.
  • Create and maintain IRC computer software/hardware inventory ensuring accuracy.
  • Create and maintain network documentation to include IP address, system access, email creation system, upgrades and changes to the original network, etc.
  • Diagnose hardware and software faults by questioning clients patiently about a problem and explaining the procedures to them.
  • Work on ServiceNow system to timely resolve the incidents IT department receives from staff.
  • Provide weekly report to Senior IT Officer about the topics requested report on.
  • Provide Field visit reports after conducting field visits.
  • Working towards a successful resolution of the problems clients present.
  • Managing/Monitoring firewall to ensure accessing the internet is in line with IRC standards.
  • Closely collaborate with International and HQ IT team on helpdesk, connectivity and other in country and global IRC IT projects.
  • Investigate local Internet connectivity options within available ISPs to obtain adequate bandwidth for Intranet and application connectivity – with IRC Global Network. Advise the country office and Global/Regional IT accordingly.

External:  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • University degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical work experience.
  • PC Support experience, A+ Certification desired. 
  • At least 2 years experience in IT profession
  • Experience installing, configuring and managing both wired and wireless LAN, and firewalls.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experienced in network cabling and connecting RJ45 connector.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds from floor to a standard desktop.
  • Should be able to climb ladder to install and/or remove Wi-Fi access point.
