The IRC has been present in Nigeria since 2012 when the organization responded to flooding in Kogi state. In February 2014 the IRC moved into Adamawa State in NE Nigeria to provide humanitarian interventions through a multi-sectoral, integrated approach for conflict affected populations. IRC Nigeria now operates a country office in Abuja and field offices in Mubi and Yola of Adamawa State, Maiduguri and Monguno of Borno state and Damaturu of Yobe State. Currently, IRC Nigeria implements programs primary health care, nutrition, environmental health, women’s protection and empowerment, protection, child protection, education, economic recovery and development.

Job Overview/Summary:

The Livelihood Assistant will support the field implementation of the Resilient Futures project in Damaturu, Yobe State. He/she will support in conducting relevant assessments such as market assessments, baselines, end line and post distribution and beneficiary business monitoring. The Livelihood assistant will directly facilitate the implementation of community mobilization and local stakeholder collaboration activities. The ERD assistant will directly facilitate the field implementation of the beneficiary training, beneficiary business monitoring, monitoring of weekly VSLA meetings, and local stakeholder collaboration activities.

Major Responsibilities:  

  • Supervise and monitor project clients during the implementation of field activities.
  • Oversee the registration, verification, and selection of beneficiaries in coordination with community committees and authorities, using established selection criteria.
  • Support community sensitization on selection criteria and stakeholder feedback processes.
  • Implement weekly program and monitoring plans.
  • Provide relevant information to beneficiaries, community stakeholders, and trainers, and collect feedback for improvement.
  • Organize stakeholder and community engagement meetings to gather input and document feedback.
  • Conduct field visits to identify vulnerable locations, meet with community leaders, and ensure effective community mobilization.
  • Contribute to the development of technical materials and guide teams in the implementation of livelihoods interventions and early recovery efforts.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement meetings, including managing logistics such as venue preparation and stakeholder mobilization.

Monitoring & Evaluation and reporting

  • Support in conducting community mapping assessments or labour market assessment in the targeted communities
  • Implement weekly program and monitoring plans including business spot checks and supervision.
  • Conduct post distribution monitoring
  • Under the supervision of Program Manager And M&E Officer conduct baseline and end line survey
  • Carryout spot checks and appraisals of employers
  • Submit daily activity updates and produce timely weekly and monthly reports

Key Working Relationships

Position Reports to: ERD Livelihoods Officer

Indirect Reporting: ERD Manager 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture/agroecology studies, business Administration, economics, developmental studies or any relevant field

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience in providing implementing livelihoods, Food Security, natural resource management and cash transfer programming.
  • Experience working with INGO/NGO in Northeast/Northern Nigeria

Demonstrated Technical Skills:

  • Technical skills in cash and livelihoods programming
  • Experience in community and stakeholders’ relationship building and management
  • Experience data collection, management and reporting
  • Experience implementing Climate Smart approaches

Languages:

  • Fluency in English Language both written and spoken is required and Hausa language is mandatory.

Computer/Other Tech Requirements:

  • Full professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
