IRC’s Crisis Response, Recovery & Development department (CRRD) leads and delivers the IRC’s work in crisis-affected contexts around the world. This is achieved by over 16,000 staff across 350 office in 40+ countries, working to deliver more than 600 individual grants and contracts and an annual budget in excess of $830M. Last year, our efforts served more than 33M crisis-affected people with high quality humanitarian programming. The department consists of three programmatic pillars: Program Delivery, Technical Excellence and Emergencies & Humanitarian Action. The CRRD Finance team is one of three additional enabling teams within the department, alongside Policy & Planning and People & Culture.
JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance Excellence will lead the implementation of IRC’s new and ambitious Global Finance strategy. This pivotal role will focus on defining and establishing streamlined processes, systems, and structures to ensure financial stability and promote financial accountability and discipline across the organization. The Director will collaborate closely with all Global Finance teams, including regional program teams, to ensure strategic alignment with IRC’s financial goals and organizational objectives. This role requires a deep engagement with stakeholders across Finance and other departments to foster a culture of continuous improvement, data integrity, efficiency, and proactive risk management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Work with CFO and other senior leaders across the IRC (including all of GFLT) to set out an ambitious end state for IRC’s finance function, as well as the critical elements that need to change to get us there.
•Lead the Finance Excellence Office, starting with the development of a detailed, cross-functional workplan to transform IRC’s global finance into a best-in-class function. In doing this you will draw on learnings from the SRA process, recommendations from a recent analysis by the Boston Consulting Group and additional learnings from within and outside the Finance team
•Support Global Finance (including Program Finance) teams in identifying and implementing new processes, structures, and procedures that will enhance financial accountability and management standards, fostering collaboration across departments.
•Facilitate internal and cross-departmental discussions to refine and clarify roles and responsibilities for key finance processes (e.g., program operating budgets)
•Define and support the adoption of critical data standards, including standardization of reporting, supporting the organization in prioritizing and shifting existing activities as needed
•Develop and execute human-centered change management strategies to support the transition to new financial processes and systems, ensuring smooth adoption across the organization.
•Strengthen overall risk management practices to mitigate financial, operational, and compliance risks, ensuring organizational stability and resilience.
•Act as a member of the Global Finance Leadership Team, with particular responsibility for ensuring the different parts of the Finance team work together and with other parts of the organization.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications & experience
•8+ years of experience in financial budgeting and planning in relevant contexts
•Advanced degree in relevant field
•Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional processes and engaging senior stakeholders across multinational organizations
•Demonstrated experience of defining and leading the implementation of new processes and standards across international contexts
•Financial and management reporting systems experience
•Ability to host & participate in global meetings off-hours & travel for meetings & events, including international travel.

Compensation:
Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
US Benefits:
The IRC offers a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits. All US employees are eligible for sick time, a 403b retirement savings plans: up to 4.5% immediately vested matching contribution, plus an 3-7% additional IRC contribution, and an Employee Assistance Program which is available to our staff and their families to support in times of crisis and mental health struggles.
In addition, full-time employees are eligible for 10 US paid holidays, 20-25 paid time off days, disability & life insurance, medical, dental, and vision insurance (employee contribution starting at $135, $7, and $5 per month respectively) and FSA for healthcare, childcare, and commuter costs. Part-time employees are eligible for a proportionate amount of paid time off. These additional benefits apply to employees who work at least 6 months within a 12 month time period.
