JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Student Orientation & Transition Programs (SOTP) is seeking a diverse team of aspiring undergraduate student leaders at the University Park campus to serve as Part-Time Orientation Leaders.  As a part of the Orientation Team (OTeam), Orientation Leaders play a key role in providing a quality transitional experience for all incoming first-year students through the New Student Orientation (NSO) program. Orientation Leaders assist incoming Penn State students as well as their parents and family members by providing an introduction to the campus and its resources, leading conversations about the transition from high school to college and acting as a representative of the Pennsylvania State University.   

 

Primary responsibilities include providing assistance with the college transition by facilitating small group discussions on subjects including involvement on campus, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, personal responsibility, and responsible decision making.  Orientation Leaders also present information to students on educational planning, including academic requirements, academic goal setting, and academic integrity. Orientation Leaders must work cooperatively within a team of fellow student leaders to accomplish tasks, respond to questions from students and families about university life using personal experiences in a professional manner, and encourage students to establish meaningful connections with other first-year students. Orientation Leaders must also engage in self-evaluation and reflection throughout the summer to develop a personal growth plan. Members of the OTeam must be able to be flexible, patient, and quick on their feet as NSO is a demanding and fast-paced work environment. OTeamers are expected to actively engage with students and families while providing a welcoming environment for all new Penn Staters. 

 

Interested applicants must be a current full-time Penn State undergraduate student who plans to be enrolled in fall 2023, will earn at least 24 cumulative Penn State credits by the end of the spring 2023 semester, and have maintained a minimum 2.5 GPASuccessful candidates will enroll in a three-credit training course during the spring 2023 semester and must obtain a B or higher in that course to continue employment. Successful candidates will also be required to adhere to a 19-credit limit for the spring 2023 semester. This is inclusive of the 3-credit training course.  

 

Candidates must be in good academic and non-academic standing with the University at the time of application, hire, start of employment, and through the duration of employment. All non-academic misconduct will be reviewed for employment consideration. Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
