Purpose

Position will work with internal and external collaborators to investigate and resolve errors in end-to-end scientific data transfers, coordinate with external collaborators to understand and debug open data transfer and routing problems, and gain in-depth knowledge of modern data architectures and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Applies intermediate knowledge in the analysis of large-scale networks, data architectures, and/or cyberinfrastructure systems.
• Responsible for evaluating and proposing new projects to help external partners to improve data transfer performance.
• Provides intermediate operational analysis in forecasting, determining capabilities, and estimating costs to plan how the network, data architecture or cyberinfrastructure will run on a day-to-day basis.
• Contributes to planning sessions and consults with clients to ensure achievement of goals.
• Trains clients in the use of network measurement and monitoring tools through formal and informal means.
• Presents findings in formal and informal settings via presentations and written material.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency with operating and modifying large network services and network software
• 8 + years networking experience including Cisco IOS, Aruba OS, Airwave, and ClearPass
• Significant experience in network hardware setup and installation including switches, routers, VPNS, wire terminations, fiber, vendor management and wireless access points
• Requires the ability to identify and resolve moderately complex problems/issues/assignments
• Requires core problem-solving skills and techniques
• Familiarity with RouteViews, perfSONAR, NetSage, or StarDust
• ITIL Foundations 4 Certified

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with general research networking and network monitoring tools
• Experience in network hardware setup and installation for wide area networks in an R&E environment

Salary Range

$93,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Typical office environment with domestic travel (car, plane) approximately once per month
