Offer Description
Title of the project: Application of advanced structural and functional neuroimaging techniques (MR morphometry, Diffusion Tensor Imaging, Susceptibility Weighted Imaging, Functional MRI) in subjects affected by neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders with regard to the multidisciplinary aspects concerning the use of neuroimaging in the selection of patients who are candidates for new therapies and in the monitoring of therapeutic efficacy.
Research program: The main objective of the research program will be the quantitative analysis of brain volumes and microstructural alterations of the cerebral white matter, as well as the recognition of abnormalities in resting cerebral functional connectivity, potentially modifiable by targeted therapies. A distinctive feature will be the ability to create, implement and analyze functional tasks dedicated to the investigation of psychiatric diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, brain tumors and motor abnormalities related to metal exposure. The researcher will be actively involved in the development of clinical research projects, collaborating with other units of the Medical Area. Particular attention will be paid to the application of new diagnostic techniques for neurodegenerative diseases (dementia and ALS) and psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia and affective disorders), with the aim of identifying neuroimaging biomarkers with predictive and prognostic value. The research program also includes the evaluation of the efficacy of novel pharmacological approaches, psychotherapy techniques, targeted physical activity, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). This evaluation will based on the analysis of neuroimaging and clinical outcome measures in prospective single- and multi-center national and international studies. A further aspect of the activity will address the correlation between neuroimaging biomarkers and other clinical, instrumental, biological and genetic biomarkers, thus contributing to the identification of early indicators of disease and development of new therapies.
Tasks of the candidate: The winner will develop a research project in the field of advanced neuroimaging techniques, as described above
Teaching activities: The teaching activity will dedicated to the courses related to the scientific disciplinary sector MED/50, part of the Macroarea of Medicine. The researcher will also follow degree theses and PhDs, carry out tutoring and student orientation activities, organize seminars and conferences.
Duration of the project: 6 years
Requirements for being admitted to the selection: PhD in a field congruent with the scientific sector MED/50.
