Rechargeable batteries play a key role in electric vehicles and transition to net zero. One of the current challenges in batteries is degradation, which causes capacity retention and resistance increase as the battery cycles. Battery degradation is a complicated phenomenon that requires a fundamental understanding of electrochemistry as well as different ageing mechanisms. Within this project, we aim to develop various models with different levels of fidelity to understand driven ageing mechanisms under various usage conditions and predict the battery lifetime. This can ultimately reduce the cost of electric vehicles and increase their rate of adoption.
This project is open-ended making it suitable for MSc by Research and PhD level.
