STIPEND FOR LICENSE. This position will be paid an additional monthly stipend of $500 for a current Master or Journeyman Electrical or Plumbing license and HVAC Class A or B license. The license must be issued by the State of Texas and maintained in a current status.

Purpose

To provide journey level and/or Master Multi-Crafted technical trade skills in the performance of work required for the maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of Security Service’s work for the residence halls, apartments, and dining facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Standard Access Control/ CCTV Duties: Perform installations and repair of door access system to include door management alarms, card readers, electric strikes, electrified exit devices, delayed egress devices, and door contacts. Install and program standalone electronic locks. Perform installations for CCTV cameras, DVR, and updated video system software as needed. Use troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques to perform maintenance, repairs, and identify systems and equipment malfunctions. Work with access control software.

  • Locksmith Duties: Assist and perform installations and repair of commercial mortise lock-sets and exit devices. Perform pinning of cylinder cores to include master tier. Respond to emergencies to repair broken mortise locks. Analyzes computer-generated work orders and prioritize repairs. Work with Key software.

  • Communication/Customer Service: Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Communicate with supervisor, staff, and student residents regarding needed repairs and work order status. Follow through with written and oral instructions from supervisor.

  • Inventory/Work Orders: Completes and submits paperwork at the end of each day to supervisor. Ensure all inventory items are signed out and accounted for daily. Sign and close out all completed work orders daily with a description of work performed.

  • Transportation/Equipment operation: Drive a UT vehicle to the work site, transporting equipment and supplies as needed to perform routine and preventive maintenance and/or repairs.

  • Diversity/Professional Development: Works in a diverse environment. Encourage, support, and promote diversity initiatives. Promotes the professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training.

  • Emergency on-call operations/off-schedule work hours: Carry a UT cell phone for the on-call rotation and respond to emergencies as requested. Perform and respond to emergency repairs 24/7 and facilitate completion as needed. Must be able to work as a team member independently and in various work areas. Work weekends and overtime as determined by the supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED.

  • Five years experience in construction and/or maintenance and repair in a crafts trade of facilities maintenance with three years of experience as a journeyman in a construction/facility maintenance trade related to the posted job title as a journey level Commercial Access Control Technician.

  • Experience working with access control software.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of journey level experience in a combination of trades.

  • Five or more years of commercial journey level experience as an access control tech.

  • Experience in the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel, and repair of electronic locks, delayed egress devices, Access Control Systems, and CCTV Systems.

  • Experience in installing, repairing, and maintaining mortise locks, door closers, exit devices, and other types of locking devices on all types of doors, gates, and other equipment.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and verbal work-related instructions and requests from supervisors, customers, and co-workers.

Driving Required

This job requires a class “C” operator’s driver’s license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. The applicant selected must have an acceptable three year driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record and valid license throughout employment.

Salary Range

$55,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

  • 7:45am – 4:15pm Monday – Friday. Work days, area, and hours may vary based on the needs of the Unit and University Housing Dining.
