Course Number and Title: MUI2080H5F – Intelligent Communities/Smart Cities

This course provides an overview of strategies that make up a ‘smart city” and ‘intelligent community’ – approaches to local development that integrate digital infrastructure and information and communication technologies with urban planning processes. Students will study the importance of governance forms, human capital, and equity considerations that are integral to their success. Additional key aspects include analyzing real-time data to better manage resources and congestion, forming partnerships between government, industry and universities to promote digital innovation and economic growth, and strengthening access to broadband technologies to improve the quality of life and public engagement of citizens.

Date of Appointment: September 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024

Qualifications: Ph.D. (Geography, planning, political science or related field) preferred or relevant/equivalent industry experience 

Duties: 

All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University graduate-level credit course including: Leading weekly seminars and discussions; designing graduate level assignments; arranging field trips, guest speakers and/or other experiential learning opportunities. Meeting with student teams to guide/advise them on their assignments. Holding weekly office hours. 

Marking/evaluating all student assignments; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; and communicating with students on course related matters. Building and maintaining Quercus course shell.

Design course syllabus, content and assignments in close consultation with Program Director. Liaise with Program Director regarding course content and curriculum.

Rate of Pay: Minimum $9457.90 as per CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement (includes 4% vacation pay)
