Monroe County Community Development Program Coordinator

Department:
FAES Washington County

The Program Coordinator position reports to the Area Leader and plans, conducts, and administers the Community Development Program in Monroe County. The Program Coordinator will follow OSU Extension and Research Foundation guidelines, standards, and practices.

Serves as a liaison to the prosperity of the county, municipalities, and townships, as well as community groups such as the volunteer fire departments, emergency squads, community centers, water/sewer districts, and the county park district.

Utilizes Extension factsheets to distribute educational materials and programming. Plans, supervises, and schedules events.

Compiles information, drafts grant proposals, and submits grants for community projects. Assists with grant administration and project management as needed, following funder and local government protocols.

Conducts community data analysis, needs assessments and assists communities in prioritizing projects when funding is limited. Follows OSU prescribed guidelines in all research activities.

Recommends specific budgetary needs for programs/projects and funding sources. Prepares project budgets and monitors expenses. Develops a reporting system to document assistance, collaborations, and related successes, especially for state audits and monitoring visits.

Conducts evaluation of programming and recommends changes as needed. County program areas for grant administration and project management include Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs, Appalachian Regional Commission grants, Ohio Public Works Commission grants, various foundation grants, and others to meet the needs of the county and its communities. Implement local and regional economic development programming through coordination with local partners to create results for the county. Coordinate and teach economic development programs such as entrepreneurship development, business retention and expansion, e-Commerce, retail market analysis, and economic impact analysis, etc., where appropriate and applicable. 

Works collaboratively with Extension Educators in all other program areas (4-H Youth Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Family and Consumer Sciences), where interdisciplinary efforts are needed to meet broad issues or carry out major programming efforts.
 

Attends relevant CD trainings, in-services and conferences as needed. Position contingent upon funding availability.                            
       

This positions is located in Woodsfield, Ohio.
 

An earned bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience at the time of hire is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in Community Development or other educationally related area (examples are: Public Administration, Business Administration, Community Planning, Community Development, Communications, and Applied Economics). 

Basic computer skills required.
 

Successful individual will have strong written and oral communication skills and experience in working with diverse clientele and organizations with experience in facilitating coalitions. Ability to write grants and establish partnerships that pool and/or leverage public and private funds. Experience in budget development and management. Detail-oriented and well
organized. Ability to work in teams or groups. Ability to listen and solve problems at the community level. Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, self-motivated, have effective time management, organization and prioritizing skills, and be able to work with minimal supervision. Possess a valid driver’s license with ability to provide own transportation to attend meetings.
