About the Project

Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Liver Disease (formerly called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, NAFLD) is rapidly becoming the leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. Despite its growing prevalence, effective treatments remain limited due to an incomplete understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms. Our laboratory is dedicated to uncovering the disease processes involved and identifying therapeutic targets, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes. We collaborate with other research groups in Israel and abroad.

We employ state-of-the-art metabolomics, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques to investigate metabolic changes in hepatocytes and liver tissue. Our research projects use tissue culture systems and preclinical models for fatty liver disease, providing a comprehensive platform to study disease processes, test potential interventions and analyze drug toxicity.

Key Research Areas:

Lipoprotein Dynamics and Lipid Turnover in the Liver – Investigating how altered lipid metabolism contributes to disease onset and progression.

Increased Drug Toxicity in Liver Steatosis – Exploring how the fatty liver environment impacts drug metabolism and toxicity.

Hepatocyte Regeneration in Disease Progression – Understanding the mechanisms that govern liver cell repair and replacement under diseased conditions.

Candidate Requirements We are seeking highly motivated students who are passionate about basic science and translational research and enjoy working as part of a team. Experience in laboratory techniques including cell culture, pre-clinical (mouse) models , molecular biology and biochemistry is preferred but not essential.

Join us at Ariel University and be part of a growing research group committed to advancing our understanding of metabolic dysfunction-associated liver disease. We look forward to receiving your application!
