Mentored Scientist Development Awards

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) funds 3-5 years of biomedical science postdoctoral research under supervision of a qualified mentor.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is a participating organization for this funding. This award also may include behavioral and clinical research topics. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to pursue a career in genomic research following completion of the award.

The number of awards varies, depending on the availability of funds. The NHGRI hopes to foster career development for the awardees, and help them become competitive for new research project grant funding.

Eligibility & Requirements

Candidates for this award must have a research or health-professional doctoral degree.
The candidate must name a primary sponsor/mentor, who together with the candidate is responsible for the planning, direction, and execution of the program.

Must be able to devote a minimum of 9 person-months (75% of full-time professional effort) to the development of their research program.
