Summary
The Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine section within the Department of Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant II with clinical and administrative responsibilities supporting the clinical operations. The ideal candidate will work well within a team environment, with a willingness to assist a team member when needed.
This position is located at the McNair Campus in the Texas Medical Center.
Job Duties
- Assists providers with in-clinic performed procedures by setting up a procedure room prior to the patient’s arrival.
- Performs clinical duties that include but are not limited to nurse visits, rooming/discharging a patient, vital signs, in-clinic vaccine and medicine administration, and scheduling patients.
- Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and a positive patient experience.
- Collects patient history, perform medication reconciliation and enter information in EPIC.
- Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
- Documents patient care services by charting in the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Responds to routine patient phone calls and My Chart messages and route to RN, ACP or MD as needed.
- Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
- Provide support for junior members of the team.
- Executes physician orders and administers medications and treatments for patients.
- Provides telephone triage to patients and ensures patients receive the right level of care.
- Respects and supports patient rights and promotes cheerful family and patient relations.
- Prioritizes and organizes work so that assignments are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment, stocking exam/treatment rooms, and ordering clinic/procedure room supplies.
- Maintains a professional and cooperative relationship among healthcare teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and building rapport by participating in team problem-solving methods.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task well.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience working with Epic EHR preferred.
- Experience in an academic medicine environment is a bonus.
