Summary
The Urology Department at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant II who is proficient in delivering patient care in the ambulatory care setting. The candidate will perform patient care responsibilities and provides clerical/administrative support in a clinical setting. This position also provides guidance to entry level Medical Assistants.
Job Duties
- Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, and wound care.
- Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record.
- Handles patient daily calls and notes the primary complaint/reason for patient’s visit.
- Sets up instruments and equipment for physician and assists with procedures as needed.
- Administers medication under direction/order of a supervising physician.
- Instructs patients on general care and medical procedures.
- Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
- Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
- Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
- Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
- Takes inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.
- Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
- Assists with autoclaving instruments.
- Assists with Cysto procedures in clinic.
- Collects Urine samples/cultures.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Urology or OB-Gyn experience preferred.

Physical Risks: Potential exposures to blood borne pathogens (blood &/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, and physical hazards found in patient clinics, hospitals and/or laboratory work environments and in working directly with patients and other employees. Initial Blood borne Pathogens Training is required, and a Blood borne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually.
