Summary
The Department of Surgery and the Department of Medicine are seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, and reliable Medical Assistant II to be a part of our Sugar Land practice to support our clinicians providing services to patients. This person will have MA II responsibilities (performing routine patient care i.e. rooming/vitals) and procedure scheduling responsibilities for providers. The ideal candidate will assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician.
Job Duties
- Performs routine patient care responsibilities ex. rooming and vital signs; Note the primary complaint/reason for visits.
- Collects patient histories and enters medications into medical record.
- Maintains patient and services rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
- Reviews patients’ medication list and identifies any medications which require attention that need to be stopped prior to procedure.
- Refills medications and performs prior authorizations per protocol.
- Contacts and responds to patients via MyChart and/or telephone.
- Schedules surgeries in Baylor’s EPIC and communicate with CHI Sugar Land for OR scheduling.
- Preps patients on required instructions for successful procedure.
- Ensures all pre-procedure instructions and steps are completed prior to surgery; this includes confirming insurance is updated in the chart and verified through Baylor’s and CHI Sugar Land’s insurance department, clearances are obtained, and patient is reminded of upcoming procedure
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include: scan patient medical records; obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; completing forms/requisitions as needed
- Utilizes Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams to communicate with physicians and staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education Required: High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- Experience Required: Two years of relevant experience.
- Certification/Licenses/Registration Required: Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent organization skills.
- Proficient in MS applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent patient/customer service skills with the ability to problem-solve and de-escalate situations as needed.
