Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Mechanical System Mechanic I for the University Facilities and Capital Planning Department. Under direction of the supervisor, the Mechanical System Mechanic performs a variety of maintenance repairs and installation/replacements of machinery, mechanical equipment and system, and when assigned to shift, responds and takes action on all skilled trade calls. This position assists in the work direction of other mechanics, and trades helpers and mechanics of other skilled trades. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement | Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination. |

Physical Demands and Work Environment | PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position required the individual to stand, walk, use finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to talk or hear up to 2/3 of the time, from 50 to 100 pounds less than 1/3 of the time; to lift a weight or exert a force of up to 25 pounds up to 2/3 of the time, from 50 to 100 pounds less than 1/3 of the time. Ability to perform physical labor without restrictions, including lifting equipment in excess of fifty (50) pounds, performing work on roofs, scaffolding and ladders. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position may require work in the following environmental condition; wet or humid conditions (non-weather), work near mechanical moving parts, in high, precarious places, among fumes and airborne particles, in outdoor weather conditions and near vibrations up to 2/3 of the time; with toxic or caustic chemicals, in extreme hot or cold conditions, at risk of electrical shock and of radiation less than 1/3 of the time. Moderate noise conditions are typical for the work environment for this job. The position requires close, distance and color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus. Ability to perform physical labor without restrictions, including lifting equipment in excess of fifty (50) pounds, performing work on roofs, scaffolds, and ladders. |
