Purpose
Performs preventative work and repairs related to the installation, maintenance, and service of university facilities and equipment at the Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, TX.
Responsibilities
Assists with severe weather preparations and evacuation, rigging emergency power and emergency generator testing.
Operate all types of equipment needed for repair, installation or renovation of any project throughout all MSI buildings.
Perform preventative maintenance on all air handlers, motors, eye wash stations, lighting and air filters.
Performs work in accordance with established safety procedures; maintains a clean and safe work environment.
Assist in providing repairs to mechanical systems including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, light electrical and carpentry throughout all MSI campuses.
Responds to service calls; troubleshoots systems, equipment, valves, circuits, controls, panels, and takes corrective action.
Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school graduation or GED.
Three years of experience in applicable maintenance or construction trade at the journeyman level.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate Degree.
Graduation from technical or vocational trade school.
More than three years’ experience in applicable maintenance or construction trade.
Experience using diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, power quality meters, accelerometers, etc.
Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting.
Experience in more than one craft or trade. Working knowledge of computerized systems.
Ability to read and understand technical manuals and blueprints related to trade.
Ability to write reports summarizing work activities.
Demonstrated stable work history.
Driving Required
This job requires a class “C” operator’s driver’s license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary
$35,000 + depending on qualifications
