Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Careers and Work Integrated Learning, the MBA Career Coaching and Education Lead (CCEL) will strategically plan, deliver and delegate career coaching and education support for MBA students in the Alberta School of Business. As a critical function within the School’s Office of Careers and Work Integrated Learning (CWIL), this portfolio of activities are designed to support and empower MBA students, who have wide ranging career interests and degree backgrounds, in their career development, work search and refinement of networking skills. The MBA CCEL will work with students throughout the full cycle of their career planning from participation in orientation activities, to providing curricular career development support, one-to-one coaching, resource recommendations and assisting with work search strategies. In addition, this role will provide functional oversight and guidance to additional MBA Coaching and Education staff and will contribute to supporting and assigning projects to co-op student roles in the CWIL office.

Duties

Development and delivery of Career Coaching Programming

  • Informed by coaching best practices, the CCEL designs and implements coaching framework, policies and best practices for working with MBA students. Actively seeks out collaboration and opportunities to contribute to program design with other MBA coaching staff (full and part time coach).
  • Offers individualized coaching support, resources and feedback to empower students.
  • Uses a student-centered approach provide mentorship, feedback and coaching.

Development and Delivery of Career Education Programming

  • Works with academic leadership and faculty members to deliver career education programming in two courses. Instruction content to focus on areas such as guiding reflection on career interests and strengths, emotional intelligence, personal branding and tactical components of work search (e.g. job applications and interviews)
  • Develops, delivers workshops on topics such as storytelling and presentation skills in Business, ensures students are given the opportunity to provide feedback and implements suggestions as appropriate to improve service.

Strategic Planning and Records Management

  • Works with Associate Dean, Master’s and Professional Programs, other faculty members, and members of the CWIL team to coordinate, develop, deliver and evaluate career education or related content as part of MBA courses.
  • Works with CWIL Manager, communications, recruitment and MBA programs staff to develop a strategy for collecting and telling MBA student career success stories.

Collaboration and Special Projects

  • Act as a strategic advisor on MBA student career development needs to other members of the CWIL team and other internal or external stakeholders.
  • Contributes to development of communication plan to ensure MBA students are aware of upcoming events, programming and services.

Community Partner, Alumni and faculty member Engagement

  • Builds robust relationships with employers, community partners and alumni by creating and implementing opportunities to engage in career education initiatives with MBA students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree, Bachelor of Commerce degree preferred; but any degree emphasizing experiential learning, management, communication or other similar program coordination skills may be considered.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of related progressive work experience that demonstrates commitment to adult education, career development, coaching.
  • Familiarity with the post-secondary environment and preferably the University of Alberta.
  • Experience working with students and/or student organizations in the post-secondary environment.
  • Provincial and federal (and potentially international) employment standards and human rights legislation

Preferred Qualifications

  • International Coaching Federation (ICF) Certification Preferred
  • Knowledge of Business and its various specializations, particularly within the context of careers and employment, is an asset
  • Familiarity with Orbis, Google Suite, Peoplesoft, VMock, Interview Prep, eClass are assets
