About the Role: 

The Coordinator, Mathematics Development Programs ensures the successful operation of the Eric Muller Mathematics and Statistics Learning Centre, including the design and delivery of programs to assist first-year students and promoting the Centre and programs both internally and externally. In addition, the Coordinator has a major role in the outreach and recruitment activities of the Department. 

The Mathematics Development Program Coordinator will: 

• Develop, promote, and deliver transition programs and/or topic-specific workshops;
• Host weekly Facilitated Study Sessions for first-year calculus courses;
• Provide up to five hours of one-on-one general help to students and assist Teaching Assistants during peak times;
• Create and administer Learning Centre feedback surveys; adjust Learning Centre services when possible, to accommodate customer requests and preferences.
• Administer the Math Skills test, including initiating and maintaining communications with students, providing review sessions and workshops, monitoring test progress, and following up on requests;
• Participate in the development of online modules/testing and editing existing content;
• Serve as member of the Student Life Committee, Outreach Committee and Scientifically Yours Committee;
• Assist in all aspects of the organization and running of a Departmental Math Camp;
• Update Departmental web space, post information to Departmental social media sites, and develop/maintain Departmental Brightspace pages.

Key Skills and Experience: 

• Graduate degree in mathematics or statistics;
• Experience in tutoring or teaching university level mathematics, including some experience with course administration;
• Proven understanding of mathematics and statistics pedagogy;
• Ability to effectively communicate mathematical/statistical concepts to students with varied backgrounds;
• Ability to assess students’ understanding and identify areas of weakness, and exhibit compassion and fairness when working with individual student inquiries;
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and refer students to other available resources as required;
• Ability to behave in a professional manner appropriate to a Brock representative, answer questions and provide information on the mathematics programs and Brock University, and exhibit knowledge, enthusiasm, and pride in the University and its programs.
• Ability to cooperatively develop and share ideas regarding Departmental initiatives and projects;
• Strong customer service and excellent verbal and written communication;
• Ability to establish priorities, organize own work, and work with minimal supervision;
• Ability to identify gaps between student performance and expectation and create learning tools designed to close such gaps.

Salary and Total Rewards: 

• Job Grade L, Salary Scale $62,500-107,260
• Target Hiring Range: $62,500-65,000
