Master Thesis – Innovative Electrolyzer Concept for the Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 to Formic Acid
Helmholtz
Your Job:
In order to reduce CO2 emissions the development of sustainable production processes based on ‘Power-to-X’ (P2X) technologies are an attractive and promising approach. By developing a technology to recycle CO2 and to create a new feedstock for industry (CO2 valorization) the CO2 economy cycle should be closed. Formic acid is one possible product for the electrochemical reduction of CO2 and is a relevant base chemical of great importance. Your tasks in detail:
- Investigation of the influence of individual components and operating parameters on the performance of the electrochemical cell.
- Fabrication of gas diffusion electrodes
- Electrochemical measurements (CP, CA, LSV, PEIS, etc.)
- Product analysis by ion chromatography and gas chromatography
Your Profile:
- Ongoing master studies in chemistry, chemical engineering or similar
- Basic knowledge in electrochemistry
- First practical experience with electrochemical measurements is a plus
- Motivated and independent working style
- Good written and oral communication skills in German or English
Our Offer:
We work on the very latest issues that impact our society and are offering you the chance to actively help in shaping the change! We support you in your work with:
- An interesting and socially relevant topic for your thesis with future-oriented themes
- Ideal conditions for gaining practical experience alongside your studies
- An interdisciplinary collaboration on projects in an international, committed and collegial team
