Job Summary The Theatre and Dance Department in the College of Liberal Arts, the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a Master Electrician.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The ME will work directly with the Lighting Supervisor in the implementation of all the department’s theatrical lighting needs, including hanging & focusing lights, equipment maintenance/repairs, production dimmer checks, organization, supervise student crews, and basic electrical work.
Other duties include:
  • Supervise students and work-study employees in the hanging and focusing of lighting equipment for the department’s productions
  • Maintain and repair related lighting equipment
  • Perform dimmer checks during production runs
  • Attend some technical and dress rehearsals (6 total each semester) to provide technical support
  • Supervise and enforce industry standard safety protocols
  • Work schedule is 19 hours per week, Monday thru Thursday, during the afternoons plus some evening and weekend production work.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Arts in a technical degree or BFA in Theatre Arts with technical experience.
  • Experience with lighting technology, and maintenance and repair.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with theatrical sound technology a plus
Working Conditions Position works in heights on the department’s catwalk system, scaffolding, and personal lifts. Successfully candidates must be able to stand & walk for extended amount of time and maintain balance on elevated surfaces.
