Description
Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data collected via intensive mark-selective fishery monitoring studies in marine areas of Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Monitoring strategies include dockside sampling (creel surveys), on-the-water surveys (boat surveys), test fishing, and Salmon Trip Reports (STRs) which are collected from members of the angling public.
Analyze data produced from mark-selective fishery studies using a variety of data analysis approaches and statistical methods. Summarize data in tables and figures and generate estimates of catch and effort with variances to be used in in-season reports, in-season fishery management, and post-season reports.
Manage and analyze databases resulting from statewide mark-selective salmon fisheries evaluations. These databases contain the critical data parameters needed for analyzing impacts of mark-selective fisheries on natural-origin (unmarked) salmon.
Write, and post to WDFW webpage, semiannual, summer and winter post-season reports containing the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of results from intensive mark-selective fishery monitoring studies conducted throughout Puget Sound for Chinook and Coho salmon.
Develop and implement agreed-to approaches for sampling designs, data analysis, and reporting of monitoring results for new and existing mark-selective salmon fisheries in Puget Sound, as a key technical representative in State-Tribal negotiations during annual North of Falcon (NOF) and Pacific Fisheries Management Council (PFMC) meetings. Work closely with Tribal and WDFW biometricians, harvest biologists, and fisheries managers to establish and implement agreed-to approaches for monitoring designs, data analysis, and reporting.
Present findings from mark-selective fishery monitoring and other special projects at meetings with Tribal and WDFW representatives, including North of Falcon meetings.
Plan, develop, and design monitoring studies for mark-selective salmon fisheries in the marine areas of Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Coordinate closely with others in the Puget Sound Sampling to design comprehensive monitoring plans and data collection strategies. Data collection approaches incorporate dockside sampling (creel surveys), on-the-water boat surveys, aerial surveys, test fishing, and Salmon Trip Reports from the angling public.
