Job Summary Dalhousie University, under the leadership of the Vice-President Research & Innovation, administers over $200M annually in research funding. Reporting to the Managing Director, Research and Innovation, and as a member of the Office of Research Services (ORS) leadership team, the Manager, Post Award contributes to the advancement of Dalhousie Research and Innovation strategic objectives by providing essential leadership and management expertise to post award processes across all ORS units; Institutional and International Programs, Grants and Contracts and Legal.
Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for continuous review of current practices, development and implementiation of tools and/or methods to ensure compliance with funder policies and requirements, regular tracking of case files, workflow management across staff responsible for post-award processes to enable transparency with researchers availing of post-award support and services.
  • Leads operational planning process, aligning unit goals with department goals and evaluates the effectiveness of post award processing strategies and provides guidance on research funding programs and opportunities.
  • Advises and provides authoritative information to researchers, Department Heads, Deans and Administrators regarding the research grant post awards processes, while also receiving and incorporating their advice where appropriate towards improving processes to facilitate their efficient access to research funding.
  • Provides operational oversight, leadership and managerial support and direction to post award staff.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree with approximately five to seven years’ experience in research administration management and/or leadership role.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills in order to deal with the high volume and interdisciplinary setting, and to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Must have strong communications (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with clients, university administration, and agencies’ personnel.
Assets
  • Experience in a research university environment.
  • Master’s degree.
