  • Commencement Salary: $123,186 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)

About the Role 

The Manager: Library Services is
responsible for the entire Library team based at a given campus. This
position is responsible for addressing strategic campus and Division
based issues and the management and delivery of facilities, services
and resources in support of the academic programs and research
activities of the University.

of South Australia Library supports the University’s teaching
learning and research mission through provision of relevant
information resources and associated services. The Library also
coordinates copyright for the University. There are four campus
libraries, located at City East, City West, Magill and Mawson Lakes as
well as the Off Campus Library Service. Information technology and
information resource management services are on the Mawson Lakes
campus. The Library has a growing research collection with over
700,000 ebooks and online journals as well as print resources and
archival collections.

The Library is operating in an
environment of increasing availability of digital information and
demand and plays a significant role in training staff and students in
information skills.

The University has adopted a Digital
Library Strategy to accelerate the acquisition of books in digital
format and has adopted a next generation Library Management System as
part of its commitment to making information resources accessible to
the University community 24×7.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Manage, lead and motivate the
    Library Services staff to meet strategic targets through
    recruitment, training, documentation, process improvement and
    performance planning and management
  • Contribute as part of the management
    team to the strategic planning of the Library and its role
  • Formulate and lead the Library’s
    response to drivers and initiatives in higher education to ensure
    the effective delivery of services and resources to academic staff
    and students
  • Monitor and evaluate collections and
    their usage to ensure teaching and learning needs are met 
  • Ensure that the Library Services
    staff are aware of strategic directions of the University,
    academic units, Institutes and Centres 
  • In addition to the Mawson Lakes
    library staff, this role also provides management oversight for
    staff at the Magill campus library.  The library team at Magill is
    led by the onsite HEO8 Coordinator Library Services who in turn
    reports through the Manager: Library Services

 
Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a
    relevant discipline (such as library and information management,
    information technology, management or education), with experience
    in implementing contemporary Library services and impacting a
    positive customer experience
  • Extensive management experience with
    the ability to lead and develop teams in a complex environment,
    including the development, implementation and continuous
    improvement of work practices and procedures
  • Well-developed strategic and
    problem-solving skills, including the ability to be innovative and
    creative in providing advice and solutions to services needs
  • High level interpersonal and
    communication skills including demonstrated ability to liaise with
    senior academics and educational support staff in the University
  • High level analytical, research and
    writing skills to enable the effective synthesis of relevant
    information and data, and the provision of high-quality written
    reports and correspondence
