The Manager, Building Shift Operations & Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE) is responsible for planning and managing the operation and maintenance of a campus installation registered under the TSSA for the Chief Engineer. Responsibilities include managing and directing the work of building shift operating engineers, internal trades people and external contractors.  The Manager, Building Shift Operations & ACE responds to operational issues raised by faculty, students and staff, and ensures completion of repairs, upgrades and renovations with as little disruption as possible of academic programs. The incumbant ensures that the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems, including heating, cooling, compressed air, and hot and cold water supply systems, is carried out in a safe and continuous manner. Provides expert technical advice to others, maintains deficiency lists, actively pursues energy conservation opportunities and manages the section budget.     



1st Class or 2nd Class* Operating Engineer license (* see Experience Section).  Knowledge of all types of equipment related to refrigeration, heating systems, air handling and A/C systems and their controls, at a level appropriate in order to direct and instruct subordinate engineers in operations and maintenance.  


Minimum five (5) years’ related experience, including two (2) years’ supervisory experience if a 1st Class Engineer; minimum seven (7) years’ related experience, including two (2) years’ supervisory experience if a 2nd Class Engineer or combination of education and experience. 


Ability to handle operation and maintenance equipment.   Proficiency in use of standard office software applications: Word, Excel, etc.  Knowledge of Bailey boiler controls / Co-Generation gas Turbines.
