Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Manager, Alumni Affairs and Digital Engagement for Communications and Public Affairs at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Manager, Alumni Affairs and Digital Engagement, holds a dual purpose in the department, managing the alumni relations function including alumni outreach and alumni events throughout the year, coordination with the Rutgers University Foundation regarding alumni fundraising and the Rutgers University Alumni Association regarding overall alumni communication and recognition. The position also acts as the liaison to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Alumni Association and its board. In addition, the manager will be responsible for the alumni association’s and the medical school’s digital presence on social media and manage the content of the medical school website related to the Office of the Dean and the Department of Communications and Public Affairs. As a member of the team, the manager will contribute to school-wide initiatives including the production of internal newsletters and supporting events.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Lead, develop and execute strategic plans to grow alumni participation with the medical school through new and
    traditional outreach, including but not limited to events, online communication, print, video and in-person meetings. Implements opportunities to friend-raise with medical school alumni.
  • Increases alumni fundraising by working with the Rutgers University Foundation.
  • Provides administrative support to the Alumni function, including financial reconciliation between the alumni donors, the RU Foundation and the medical school.
  • Works with the Manager, Communications and Special Events, to support the Scholarship Gala by identifying fundraising opportunities and drive participation from alumni and other medical school community members.
  • Creates and produces communication vehicles that support the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School brand including the
    alumni digital newsletter distributed three times yearly, the weekly medical school digital newsletter and other collateral material.
  • Under the direction of the director and associate director, manages the social media platforms of the medical school, creating regular content in-line with the four missions of the school and promotes or amplifies messages, when appropriate, of affiliated units within the medical school, the university and the health system. Must ensure that FERPA and HIPAA guidelines are followed to ensure privacy of students and patients, respectively.
  • Provides written content for the alumni-specific articles in Robert Wood Johnson Medicine Magazine, including alumni profiles and news. May contribute written pieces for the newsletter, magazine, website and other print and digital publications related to Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
  • Responsible for the content management of the medical school website specific to information related to the Office of the
    Dean, the Alumni Association and the Department of Communications and Public Affairs. Works with the Office of
    Information Technology to update the medical school website on a weekly basis.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, English or a related area.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of related experience with at least three (3) years in a managerial/supervisory role.
  • Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.

  • Must possess excellent computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Constant Contact, Quark Express or equivalent design program and database management.
