INTRODUCTION
UConn’s Facilities Operations Department has one job opening for a Maintenance Supervisor 2 – General position in the Structural Trades Shop at the Storrs Campus. This position is only open to current UConn NP-2 employees. This position supervises employees in a variety of job classifications such as QCW Carpentry, QCW Glazier, QCW Locksmith, QCW Roofing, General Trades Worker, Skilled Trades Apprentice as well as student employees. The Maintenance Supervisor 2 – General position is a permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours/week position. The work schedule is 1st Shift Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with an unpaid half an hour for lunch.
This position is categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Must be willing and able to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that effect campus operations. Applicants must also be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends, and holidays). Please note that Facilities Operations NP-2 employees may also be required to perform job duties as assigned at any of the Regional Campuses. The hourly rate of pay will be determined based on the employee’s current Step of the TC Pay Plan.
SELECTION PLAN
This position is categorized as “Open to Agency Only”. Current, qualified UConn NP-2 employees will be considered for this position. This position requires considerable knowledge of modern methods and equipment involved in the trades of Carpentry, Glass, Roofing, and Locksmithing along with skill in performing technical duties required of the Carpentry, Glass, Roofing, and Locksmithing job classifications.
Applicants must possess and retain a current motor vehicle operator license throughout employment with the University.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Schedules, assigns, oversees, and reviews the work of staff; provides staff training and assistance; conducts performance evaluations; determines priorities and plans crew work; establishes and maintains crew procedures; develops or makes recommendations on the development of policies and standards; acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies, and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; prepares reports and correspondence; performs some of the more skilled duties involved; may make plans and cost estimates of work to be done; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of modern methods and equipment involved in the trade indicated by the parenthetical of the class; considerable knowledge of relevant State and national codes and regulations; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; skill in performing technical duties of the class; considerable ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and sketches; ability to utilize computer software; supervisory ability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Six (6) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings.
Note: Experience performing technical duties within the maintenance trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier, or large compound may be substituted for the General Experience on a year for year basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of the General Experience must have included performing skilled tasks in either the maintenance and repair of buildings or the military experience referenced above.
Note: For State Employees the Special Experience is interpreted at or above the level of Skilled Maintainer.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and to risk of injury from equipment.
The appointing authority may require completion of an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
