Macmillan Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
WHAT YOU’LL DO

Advanced Clinical Practice is set around the ‘4 Pillars’ Framework that includes Clinical, Leadership & Management, Research & Development and Education. You will commence an education pathway where you will be supported to complete the core modules for Advanced Clinical Practice.  These include History Taking and Physical Assessment (HTPA), Research Methods and Evidence Based Practice, Diagnostics and Decision Making (DADM), Prescribing and Pharmacology, Transition to Advanced Practice (TAP) and an option module before undertaking a dissertation.  These modules provide the underpinning theory and knowledge that encompass the 4 Pillars.  At present, there are two approaches for this Masters Pathway: a module–by-module system via Southampton University or the new Apprenticeship pathway via Bournemouth University or the Open University that will include all the modules and the dissertation in a 3 year programme.

The desire is for trainees to rotate over the course of your pathway through the Acute Oncology Service, Medical Oncology, Clinical Oncology and Haematology.  A discussion will be held on your substantive area upon completion of the final module.

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll work within one of these specialties, to practice assessment skills, clerking, diagnosis, and treatment planning, working alongside the senior ACPs and medical staff. You will also learn to handle calls to the Cancer Care Emergency Line and will be the principle person responsible for the delivery of this service, ensuring that quality standards are met and that patient safety is optimised.

As part of the provision of a 24hr service, you will be required to work a mix of days, weekends (including bank holidays), and night duties.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a motivated individual who is passionate about caring for patients with cancer and looking for a new challenge and an academic pathway to venture into the world of advanced practice. The academic study would take place alongside clinical experience within Cancer.  This role would best suit a nurse or AHP who has had some years of experience, who is prepared to expand their scope of practice within the 4 Pillars of Advanced Practice.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 22nd November 2022.
