Created in 1995, the Bordeaux Institute of Condensed Matter Chemistry (ICMCB) focuses its research on Solid State Chemistry, Materials Science and Molecular Sciences: designing, preparing, shaping and characterizing materials in order to discover, control and optimize specific functions. The ICMCB carries out fundamental research on model materials and/or materials with potential applications.
The ICMCB is a UMR with an average of 270 agents (permanent and non-permanent), with 3 tutelles, hosted by the CNRS and in total ZRR. The position is located in a sector covered by the Protection of Scientific and Technical Potential (PSTP), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that the arrival of the agent be authorized by the competent authority of MESR.

In recent years, Group 1 of the ICMCB (Chemistry & Electroceramics) has developed new Mixed Ionic and Electronic Conductors (MIEC) oxides for SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) cathodes. These oxides (of the Ln2NiO4 type) enable the reduction of gaseous oxygen to be distributed over the entire surface of the electrode, rather than just at the triple contact points: gas/electronic conductor/ionic conductor. A new type of ceramic fuel cell with protonic conduction, the PCFC (Protonic Ceramic Fuel Cell), is also developing rapidly. The electrolyte used here is a substituted barium cerate of the BaCe1-xYxO3 type.
In this context, the aim of the thesis will be to design, fabricate and optimise ½ electrode/electrolyte cells and to characterise oxygen exchange at the surface of the architected electrodes. This will involve depositing a porous support on the surface of the BaCe1-xYxO3 electrolyte, which will then be impregnated with a catalyst (of the MIEC type). Physico-chemical characterisation (XRD, SEM, etc.) and electrochemical measurements will then be carried out to characterise the microstructures and performance of the electrodes in half-cell and full-cell fuel cell configurations.
