Position Overview
Applicants are sought for the fixed term position of Literacy Tutor, Ākonga Māori Student Success, Te Kunenga Ki Pūrehuroa, Massey University.
Ideally the role holder will be located in Manawatu, but other Campus locations may be considered.
About the role
The Literacy Tutor, Māori is a direct report to the Literacy Expert, Māori. The role is part of the Ākonga Māori Success Plan (AMSP) implementation team that supports the provision of education, training, support and resources based on sound educational practices, which serve the needs of all Ākonga Māori (part-time, full time, distance, in person).
The role exists to provide literacy tutoring to Ākonga Māori to upskill their literacy skills and assist them, as far as possible, to succeed academically with their programmes of study. It will also work with others, including Kahāipai, to develop/enhance their capability to embed Literacy into their support delivery.
This role is fixed term for the duration that it is funded – until 22 December 2023.
What are we looking for?
Ideal candidates will have a relevant tertiary qualification and experience that includes:
- Previous experience delivering literacy education to Ākonga Māori and familiarity with the challenges that they may face entering tertiary education.
- Experience working with and supporting Ākonga Māori, who have English, as their second language e.g., Tertiary sector, Wharekura, Kura Kaupapa, Bi-lingual education etc.
- Awareness and knowledge of educational processes and practices that work for Ākonga Māori.
- An understanding and appreciation of te Ao Māori and tikanga.
- The ability to converse in and translate text to and from Te Reo Māori and English.
