Scholarship information

Dr. Linda A. Vaughan was a nutrition faculty member at ASU for nearly four decades. She played a pivotal role in the transformation of nutrition education at ASU from a small program in Home Economics with just 60 majors to its current prominent stature in the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion. When Dr. Vaughan retired as director of the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion within the College of Health Solutions in 2016, the Nutrition Program boasted over 500 majors and was one of the largest and most successful dietetics programs in the U.S. Dr. Vaughan is a respected educator and leader around the ASU community and her devotion to her students and the dietetic community is legendary.

When asked about her dedication to teaching nutrition, Dr. Vaughan said, “I lived for those aha moments — the moment when a student’s face registered, ‘I get it now.’ That’s the big reward, and that’s what carries you through the years.”

In addition to carrying the Nutrition Program through many transitions, Dr. Vaughan demonstrated outstanding commitment to her community as a volunteer and board member for organizations serving low-income and under-served populations around the Valley.
