Position Title LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE/MEDICAL ASSISTANT
Position Summary Under the direct supervision of the provider, will be responsible for patient assessment and care and the maintenance of appropriate clinical documentation. This position is also responsible for the coordination of care including but not limited to: taking medical history, symptoms, vitals, verification of medication, scheduling tests and/or procedures, processing referrals, educating patient and ensuring continuity of care with other providers. Incumbents must also ensure that high quality, compassionate patient care is provided. This individual may perform general office duties, answering phones, scheduling patients, and updating computer system documentation as needed. Demonstrates excellent customer service to a diverse patient population.
Required Qualifications Successful completion of a practical nursing education program approved or accepted by the State of Michigan, or a high school diploma or equivalent and graduation from a medical assistant program approved by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
Licensure by the State of Michigan to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or a certified Medical Assistant.
One year of experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse or certified Medical Assistant.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive attitude.
Current BLS/AED Certification.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with EPIC or other EMR.
Duties & Responsibilities Greets patients, performs routine pre-examination procedures including vital signs, reviewing medical, social, and surgical and medication history and allergy information. Assesses and records objective and subjective data concerning presenting condition. Completes the patient care assessment.
Performs patient care measures including injections minor dressing changes, ear irrigation, collection patient specimens for laboratory procedures and point of care testing. Conducts electrocardiogram (EKG) and Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), Assists with gynecological exams and procedures and other in-office tests, exams and procedures.
Assists providers with examinations and procedures.
Accurately document and code patient conditions in the electronic medical record as appropriate per policy.
Participates in annual review for quality and completeness as necessary.
Supports, directs and refers patients for consults and/or testing and insurance pre-certification and documentation.
Maintains a high level of confidentiality and ensured patients rights in accordance with proper procedures and in compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act).
Prepares and cleans the patient areas, sets up equipment, cleans and facilitates room set up after a procedure in accordance with proper bloodborne pathogen and other policies. Disposes of contaminated supplies and other contaminated items.
Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to standards and policies/procedures as evidenced by observation, documentation and peer feedback.
Updates and maintains an accurate patient record by performing but not limited to, order reconciliation, secures messaging and other tasks as assigned.
Performs medication reconciliation, enters allergy reaction type, process refills.
Triages calls, receives and relays test results. Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients and co-workers.
Assists with filling out insurance forms, correspondence, answering the telephone, updating/filing patients medical records.
Maintains appropriate clinical inventory and supplies.
Monitors and collects daily reports (freezer/refrigerator temperatures, quality control logs, AED/emergency supplies, medications). DME equipment fitting and order reconciliation. Performs other duties as assigned.
