Job Description Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:

Lead the development and management of library systems and applications, focusing on user-centered services and sustainable information ecosystems. Oversee system configurations, programming, and technology stacks across various platforms. Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze requirements, solve issues, and guide projects to successful completion. Supervise staff and student employees while engaging with the university community to support evolving research library roles.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the day-to-day development and operation of the libraries’ digital infrastructure, with a primary focus on public-facing applications supporting learning and scholarship at URI.

Collaborate closely with peers within URI Libraries and across campus as a reliable partner to identify, prioritize, and direct projects and to sustain systems and services which enable teaching, learning, and research throughout the University.

Lead all technical phases of initiatives to implement, enhance, and maintain library systems that support and respond to the needs of local and remote URI students, faculty, and staff.

Direct support operations for all library systems, ensuring appropriate responsiveness and effectiveness in addressing and resolving reported issues and developing solutions to enhance workflow and productivity as appropriate.

Support library efforts in analysis and assessment of systems usability, inclusivity, and accessibility.

May hire, train, supervise, and mentor staff and student employees as required.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain a high level of understanding of trends and needs in academic libraries.

Stay current and research emerging and innovative new library technology and make recommendations about updates, new systems, novel approaches and solutions, and innovative advancement of library systems.

Participate in evaluation of database and application products designed to maintain the databases and application products.

Assist in the project schedules and resource requirements for projects.

Assist in making system presentations, establishing, and enforcing standards, and training users.

Participate in evaluation of library applications and their relationship to the University’s database platforms and performance.

Co-support application systems in the installation, configuration, patching, and maintenance or other application administration, as requested.

Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Various software and IT tools, computer workstation equipment, internet development tools, terminology, and practices.

Required QualificationsREQUIRED:

1. Bachelor’s degree.

2. Minimum five years of experience managing digital infrastructure.

3. Demonstrated experience with systems, standards, and technologies for research and scholarly communication.

4. Demonstrated experience with standard library practices and business processes.

5. Demonstrated experience with multiple operating systems, including system configuration and customization.

6. Demonstrated programming experience in one or more relevant programming languages.

7. Demonstrated experience in deployment or support of essential library discovery, delivery, inventory systems, and associated hardware.

8. Demonstrated working knowledge of networking protocols and specifications.

9. Demonstrated experience defining and leading projects completed on time.

10. Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate, recommend, and implement new tools and techniques in the evolving academic information environment.

11. Demonstrated experience in communicating with persons at all levels of technical ability.

12. Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

13. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

14. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

15. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred QualificationsPREFERRED:

1. Minimum three years of managerial and/or project management experience.

2. Demonstrated experience with library equipment.
