Library Experience Assistant Recruitment Autumn 2022

Maybe the thought of working in a library hasn’t occurred to you before, but if you are an outgoing team player who loves working with people, providing a friendly welcome and excellent customer service, then our Library Experience Team could be the opportunity for you! We work in a proactive, fast-paced Customer Service environment, providing a front-facing service together with online customer interactions and we’re looking for people to join our team. 

As a Library Experience Assistant, you will:  

  • Respond positively to enquiries in a timely manner, referring or escalating to colleagues when appropriate.  
  • Listen to customer feedback and take action where appropriate or refer on and follow up.  
  • Contribute to the delivery of an efficient circulation service, including shelving, that supports the need of teaching, learning and research.  
  • Actively rove library study areas, taking a proactive approach to providing help and support and always being visible and accessible for customers to ask for support. 
  • Work as part of the Library Experience team to ensure effective communication about the progress of tasks and matters to be aware of, including with evening and weekend staff, to ensure smooth and consistent service delivery. 

As the successful candidate, you should: 

  • Have the passion, ability, and experience to deliver high levels of customer service and effective communication. 
  • Be able to work flexibly to achieve team objectives by assisting others and working collaboratively to complete tasks and projects. 
  • Feel comfortable taking ownership of and resolving complex queries. 

We have two full time posts available (35 hours per week); the post will include one evening till 7pm every week and a requirement to work Saturdays on a rota basis.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited week commencing 12th December 2022 to attend an interview and complete a short task. 

Hybrid working is offered for this role, while you will work most of your time on campus you may work a small proportion remotely. We recognise the benefits and importance of an environment that supports flexible working and are open to conversations about this throughout the application process.

In recognition of staff contributions to the University’s achievements during the 2021/2022 academic year, an additional discretionary payment of 2% per annum will be added to your salary until 31/07/23 in order to ensure consistency amongst existing and incoming staff.  This additional 2% will be paid pro rata in equal monthly installments, on top of your salary each month until 31/07/23.
