Description

For the 2022 Liber Ero Fellowship competition, I am looking for a qualified candidate to nominate to conduct research on species at risk in the Foothills of the Alberta Rockies. Depending on the qualifications of the chosen candidate, potential study species include Bull Trout, Westslope Cutthroat Trout, and Bison. The research would be conducted in partnership with The Resilience Institute (https://resilienceinstitute.ca/) and The Stoney Nakoda Nations (https://stoneynakodanations.com/).

I am looking for a recent PhD with background and interests in conservation, species at risk, cultural monitoring, and working in true partnership with Indigenous communities. Liber Ero Fellowships are very competitive; in the words of the organization, fellows are “selected based on evidence of their success and emergence as leaders in a conservation-relevant research field, as well as on the merit of their proposed research and mentorship team”. Accordingly, you should have a strong record of previous accomplishments demonstrating your commitment to conservation science, outreach, and collaborations. You will also be expected to contribute positively to equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.

Importantly, I do not have the funding in place – if you are unsuccessful with the application, there is no “fall back” post-doc position in my lab.
