DescriptionThe Office of the Prosecuting Attorney currently have a vacancy for Legal Secretary. The Legal Secretaries in the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will be responsible for office correspondence, preparing reports, maintaining files and various other administrative duties requiring knowledge of legal procedures. The typical starting salary range for both is between $18.89 – $22.78 hourly depending on candidate’s qualifications and experience as well as budgetary considerations. For more information regarding this program, please visit .Examples of DutiesEssential Function ExamplesCompile and prepare reports of case data.Analyze individual solutions and take appropriate action to provide resolutions.Transcribe legal documents and correspondence.Maintain calendars of court or hearing dates, court appearances, meetings and travel arrangements.Interpret, explain and apply County Department standards, policies and procedures.Run record checks on defendants for attorneys and investigators, enter case dispositions and other information into computerized database system and edit as necessary.Maintain files of criminal histories and other confidential or sensitive material.Research and respond to inquiries from clients, interested parties, attorneys, judicial and County Department staff regarding status of cases.Answer, screen and route phone calls.Compose correspondence, proofread and correct draft documents.Review, prioritize and distribute County Department mail.Perform other duties as required or assigned.Minimum QualificationsThree years’ experience in a legal office environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Additional InformationSELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant’s education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant’s earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.
