Legal and Policy Officer

Position description

The SAA is announcing the opportunity to join our small and dynamic team as Legal and Policy Officer. In this role, you will work on legal topics in the areas of copyright, authors’ rights, collective rights management, artificial intelligence, media law, audiovisual and digital policies in Europe. Your responsibilities will also include writing reports and supporting the SAA’s strategy, members and team, under the supervision of the Secretary General.

Main responsibilities

Conducting legal analysis and providing legal assistance

• Research, analyse and summarise legal texts such as EU and national laws and caselaw related to the above-mentioned areas of work of the SAA (including comparative law) and where needed, in other fields such as contractual law, competition law, etc.;
• Monitor legislation and the implementation of directives in the SAA’s fields of activity and update the SAA database;
• Liaise with the SAA members and assist them on legal issues where needed.

Supporting the SAA’s strategy, members and team

• Provide support to the advocacy activities of the SAA, including by participating in meetings and events with external players (EU institutions, stakeholders), and reporting on them;
• Prepare the SAA working groups’ meetings in the legal areas;
• Participate in other SAA projects, events and meetings.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in law, with an expertise in copyright;
• Sound knowledge of the European institutions and of the EU decision-making process;
• Relevant professional experience in the areas of work of the SAA: copyright, culture, audiovisual, digital or other creative sectors;
• Excellent English with a proven ability to write in a clear, understandable and engaging way;
• Knowledge of French or German would be an asset;
• Interest in research and law-making process;
• Rigorous, dynamic and responsible, showing autonomy, initiative and reactivity.
