This is an opportunity to join an expanding, successful and multi-disciplinary School of Education and Social Work. 

The Department of Social Work offers a suite of courses to include the BSc Hons Social Work recruiting 90 annually, MSc Social Work recruiting 25 annually, and the Best Interests Assessor, Practice Educator and CPD Programmes.

We are seeking to appoint a lecturer to join the Social Work Team, this will be to deliver and support teaching across the department working with expert by experience colleagues, partners and students in the design and delivery of our programmes.

As a Lecturer you will need to be motivated, well organised and passionate about delivering exceptional evidence based teaching. You will have real energy and passion for your subject and its associated pedagogy. You will develop and apply inspiring teaching techniques and content which foster enthusiasm, understanding and critical enquiry amongst undergraduate and postgraduate students.  We would particularly welcome applicants with experience of Adult Social Work.

The Department of Social Work are particularly interested in hearing from applicants from the ethnically diverse communities and those with disabilities within our society, as we seek to ensure our programme team includes representatives of our diverse student group.  We actively encourage applications from people from diverse backgrounds and the communities we work with.

Applicants must hold a first degree, ideally a postgraduate qualification and relevant experience. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in Education in its broadest sense, demonstrating excellent subject knowledge and a commitment to inclusion and social justice. Experience of teaching in Higher Education at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level is desirable, but early-career applications are also warmly encouraged.

Applicants must be a qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.

The role includes working primarily on the following courses: BSc (Hons) Social Work, MSc Social Work together with the CPD portfolio within the department.  Providing pastoral support and enabling students to thrive and become independent professionals who are proud to be part of Birmingham City University is essential to your role. You will be supported to develop research, enterprise and scholarly activities which are integral to the post. In addition, there are opportunities to contribute to a range of Masters programmes and Research and Enterprise. The role involves the development of excellent teaching and learning materials, collaborating with colleagues, and supporting students’ pastoral, learning and assessment needs.
